Valley of the Giants......

As I look over the ATG II standings, I try to find something to hold on to as TSN still has me rated #2. I totally understand that the system is flawed when someone like myself has played in 215 leagues, winning at a dismal .494 rate and only having 9 titles. I look around and see the Giants of the Game like Nevdully (80 playoffs-25titles), Petrosian (57 playoffs-15 titles), Play By The Rules (39 playoffs-14 titles), Frank Bailey (45 playoffs-14 titles), gkhd11A/Charlie (33 playoffs-12 titles), errormagnet/SteveAmes (45 playoffs-11 titles), Grindi (46 playoffs-11 titles), Evil Cartman (46 playoffs-10 titles), Munich_Man (35 playoffs-10 titles), PJMB (40 playoffs-10 titles), penngray (47 playoffs-10 titles), tkl33 (36 playoffs-10 titles) and wonder to myself why I'm here. I have a decent chance of making the playoffs as I sit with 57 appearances but the ratio of titles is much lower than the group above as I only have 9 rings. I try to always look at the positive so I recently tabulated my home/away record. Surprisingly I found something to feel good about. After 181 completed leagues I have a home record of 7821-6840....533% and a road record of 6674-7987...455%. It's nice to know that I have had success in building a team around my home park. The competiton is very good and I enjoy every league no matter what the outcome. So the moral of this post is for everyone to take a good hard look at your results and try to find something good about your teams.... BTW, other 9 title holders include Rob55, Ed bazo, Odessey Tigger, deepdrive, Minnie Minoso and Horntsnest....everyone is really solid....... There are so many impressive managers with less than 9 rings that would make this post never ending....... This has been fun and I hope it continues...Bobby

Something happened when they switched over to the new boards, I think. The rankings changed as well. I became an MVP and some of the stalwarts mysteriously were demoted.

Chief,

Did you miss the memo where SOM offered us All-Star status on the new boards or an extra .005 on our winning percentage?

Bobby,

Unless you've achieved professional status and are getting paid Barry Bonds money to play Strat, the more teams you play, the less time you can put into each team. If you want to get involved in a lot of different leagues, you can't put much time into tweaking teams and changing settings for single series. You play a bunch of teams, play a few better or work out some sort of tradeoff.

You and Nev are still THE Strat studs. The rest of us are playing in your shadows.

I agree, playing 10 or more teams at once is a sure way to reduce your winning percentage.

I've changed my ways, hopefully my winning percentage and rings will be increasing shortly too. :D

I play in 8 at a time, and I can barely keep up. Can't imagine 10+

Frank is right. The more teams you play, the less you have time to tweak, and the lower your W/L percentage is likely to be. I had ten at one time and I found that unmanagable. I had two at one time and that just didn't satisfy my addiction for the game. Finally...I discovered 6 to be the perfect number of teams I can tweak on any given night before I hear my wife yell from the other room "ARE YOU ON THAT COMPUTER PLAYING BASEBALL AGAIN?"

Just to be mentioned in that crew of allstar managers is huge honor, one I'm not sure i deserve....my winning % is probably the lowest in that group and so my # of rings is more from playing so many leagues then from the success of those other guys who just build winner after winner.

On a side note .... it doesn't seem to matter if I run 10 teams or 30 teams .... i still stink...LOL. What I mean is the winning % stays about the same. I had hoped since I am forced to play less I would do better, but it doesn't seem to be the case. In fact I more inclined to tinker with less teams to look at....not always to good advantage either...hahaha

Yeah playing 45 teams is tough. I need to cut back to 30, get my pct. back up where it belongs.
