Never tried 69 Season

Postby Eddie E » Sun Nov 13, 2005 12:26 pm

I think individual years from the past is a really cool idea. I am in the midst of my 5th 2005 team but havent yet tried 1969.

I was pretty excited when I saw the format but in reading some of the comments about it I am a little concerned over the discussions about the leagues taking forever to fill and limited card availability causing the drop/add and waivers portion to be ineffectual.

Any veterans of the '69 leagues want to chime in and educate me?

If you have 5, '05 teams, you will be able to appreciate the '69 version.

You cannot compare ATG2 to this game.

I could say lots about this version, but, don't wanna give anything away.

Any question in particular that you need answer to before you try this version??

I just drafted my first 1969 team lst night. Only got 3 everyday players that I wanted, but it appears that most teams in my league have the same issues.

Thin talent pool compared to other games due to 24 teams (4 expansion teams). I am a veteran of the ATG/ATG II games and it appears that the 1969 season is a totally different game than the other years due to the limited talent pool, especially on OBP and Defense.

The 1969 season is fun, but you'll tire of it quickly. I'd say a public league to start, then a couple of theme leagues is about it. There is a good selection of SPs, some top tier guys, but quality relievers are hard to come by -- especially closers. There are also some good sluggers, but middle infield is weak -- especially defensively. A couple of tips: snap up the best middle IFs you can early, because you're going to pile up Es without them. Petrocelli usually is the first to go, so don't bother unless you feel lucky enough to get the No. 1 overall pick. You can find a good ace in the second, or even third rounds -- maybe even on waivers or in frenzy -- and decent SPs in the middle rounds. Best closer I've noticed in seven leagues is Tatum, but he's $6 mil. Best value may be Bouton at $.50 (he's done consistently well for me). Also, not a ton of 600 PA hitters, so be prepared to have quality depth in spots.

I just won my first 69 league with Joe Morgan(23 e's) and Gene Micheals(18 e's) in the middle.

I think having 3's with E's in the middle is less of an issue in 69. The high quality SP's and the high percentage of DP's from hitters cards even it out well IMO.

One item of note from 2 completed seasons. Get a C that can hold runners. Base stealing counts in 69. Morgan, Bonds, Harper, Tover, etc are standing on 2base alot.
