Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

[quote:dfa1ec3f39="Sykes25"]28 teams that have been named which are either active, or being live drafted as we speak. Only 4 of them are 80's teams though with ATG2 taking up the most active teams right now. That will change very shortly. :P[/quote:dfa1ec3f39]

May I ask how you know this? I am always interested in knowing what 80's leagues are forming. Is there a way I can see this info without creating a team and trying to join a league?

Thanks,

Mike

I am amazed. When do you find time for anything else?

he doesn't do anything else. THATS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT!!!!!

Adiction: loss of reality, loss of money, loss of interpersonal relationships :), loss of sleep, loss of job for surfing during working hours.

Does this sound like you? Well, you're screwed because the money it would cost to get some psychological help is just enough to purchase one last 80's team, and we know what you are going to do with the money, don't we?

You think YOU got it bad??!!!???

When I do go to bed before the scores are posted I toss and turn thinking about what I need out of THIS three game series. Most nights I awake early to catch a glimpse and the rest of the night is determined by the outcome of those games. If the scores are NOT POSTED, I'll refresh every fifteen to thrity minutes until I get the "Last night's games will post....." message and either happily drift off to sleep, or second guess myself into slumber figuring the permutations for tomorrow's games.

During quiet daytime hours, I'll rehash my draft card wondering if I put the right emphasis on offense or did I do right by placing Cobb over Pete. Will Waiver Day be filled with Christmas joy as I fill holes caused by a woeful draft???? Ahh the joys of filling out a line-up card from my wish list only to be fooled again by having my top 4 transactions picked consecutively before me leaving me with a fistful of cash and a third string IF as my first round pick.

Night before last I hit an all-time low as with the start of my first foray to recapture the magic of the 1969 season, I rifled through boxes of long forgotten cataloged baseball cards to reassemble my team. The hair styles seemed foreign and the uniforms straight out of a museum, but it helped to put faces to the names. "So that's what Ray Culp looked like??? If only Stan Williams had stayed healthy.... "

Alas, I pulled out my 1963 Gene Mauch baseball card and placed it next to Tony LaRussa's 1972 issue and let them bookmark my notepad before closing the book on another day. Hoping these two managers will somehow while I struggle with the dice on my back, the addidction called Strat-o-Matic.

Let us pray......

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept HAL,
The courage to start a .75 pitcher,
And the wisdom NOT to start a 5 (+5) in Centerfield

You guys are all sick.

Who am I kidding? Me too.

I was at a wedding 4-5 months ago, one of those deals where you know next to no one. Ended up BSing with a guy also there with his wife that didn't know anyone. After 17 or 18 Absolut & Grapefruits, he mentioned Strato online. I had played the board game as a kid.

I get back to town and immediately get in an ATGII league. Instantly hooked. Thanks to a very lucky (I had no clue what I was doing at the time) autodraft, that 1st team went 100-62, and I beat the vaunted Maxie Minoso in 7 games in the WS thanks to 2 HRs by Doby and a pinch hit single from backup C Terry Steinbach.

I remember saying at the time I would do two teams max. That was like 3-4 months ago ... now I have 3 ATG, 3 80's, and 2 '69 teams going.

Oh yeah ... I had my 1st kid 4 months ago. Everything I used to do in my free time has now been replaced by Strato and tending to my son Nicholas. LOL.

I'm not dreaming about it though. Yet.

great thread ...

I'm just as bad as you all are. Have dropped a couple of hundred on this in just the last three months, and I'm not rolling in dough. However, I've been able to slacked the pace lately thanks to NetPlay. I prefer playing Strat head-to-head anyway and so, when I'm hankering for a game -- which seems like nearly always when I'm not working -- I troll around for someone to play me. I've just joined a league, which will fill a couple of nights a week, but I wouldn't mind getting another one up (if someone other than me knows what they're doing and will run it). My current league, which should begin drafting soon, is a combination of HOF, 1934 and Negro League players. I'd like to start up a 2005 league ... not necessarily a permanent one, but just a group of people that like NetPlay. If you haven't tried it, skip a couple of TSN/Strat teams, get v.10.00 and the free 10.01 upgrade from SOM and a 2005 roster set. Although NetPlay is a little slow, it is still a blast.

I am suprized there are not more players in the Grand Rapids, MI area. I enjoyed playing with the dice, and it was cheaper. You don't see a lot of people playing the game though.

Is there a list of people and leagues or something of the kind? I like the SOM online because you can play an entire season. I do miss the dice though.

It is too bad that they cannot show the dice rolls in the individual game score sheets. It would help us how much it costs us to put that four or three defense out there.
