When picking early, it was tough to decide how to risk the balance of the first round playing out. Bal and Min went early, and if there was a run on the better teams in the first round, the pickings could have been slim, even if you had a high second round pick.

As it turned out, after my 4th pick, everyone went low to position themselves for round 2. That meant it was 17 picks in between my 'middle' top tier team, Cinci, and my second pick.

When I picked Cinci, I felt the worst case scenario was I'd get either Sea or Cle in round 2. Cle went the pick before mine and Sea dropped to me.

The strategy was great, and I can't see it playing out the same way twice.

The other graet thing about this format may be the way it encourages trading to fill holes that a normal franchise would have. much better than having a FA pool for everone to fight over. We'll see.

I'd do this again in a heartbeat, but I might want a lower 1st round pick to see how things are breaking! :)

I was afraid the Cubs pick was going to make you tense, Cubs48, lol. They just seemed like a good cheap team with lots of positions covered, and a couple of pretty good starters. I was also figuring that I would have a good shot at getting a top flight SP, and a good CF and RF with several different teams in the second round. Lucky for me it worked out.

My team is ready, but I'm debating between Wrigley and Candlestick. When should we put the teams in? Is there a deadline, other than Friday?

By the way, I've got a couple of cheap starters, Holtzman and Selma, and Beckert, Hickman, and Dietz (C) available for a RP in the $2-4 MM range. Also have a lot of .50-1.00 guys if anybody drafted some teams that are short on them....

Except for pitching, my team is pretty bad. I need a RF or DH that can hit righties. A 3b that can hit lefties would also be nice. My decent players available for trade include Wes Parker, Munson, Ellis, Sutton, etc. I'm open to trading starters too.

I saw comment about the Washington Senators. I had experience playing a few COMBO THEMES with the 1969 set though it was a while back. One that was just like this I was the commissioner of and with Boston and Washington I won a Championship. Playing in Fenway I won and F. Howard hit 60 HRS.

I decided to try picking Washington first and then I would have an early 2nd round pick. I did misjudge how many teams under Washington would be picked in the 1st round but I did correctly predict what my worst case scenario would be. I thought one of either Bost, SF, Atl or the Mets would be left. The mets probably the last one I wanted but I'm happy though it made me change to a more pitching ballpark.

I did enjoy getting many well thought out trade offers and though I went with one eliminating 2-3 possible offers they still were good offers.

The deal I ended with was Tom Seaver, G. Gentry, B. Harrelson and A. Shamsky for M. Stottlemeyer, D. Sutton and H. Clarke. I may have done better if I split them up but I had seen Stottlemeyer do quite well in Shea Stadium compared to Seaver and Sutton being a bit strong vs Righties is a better fit than Gentry who is a 5L. Harrelson was a sub and H. Clarke improved my INF defense quite a bit. Shamsky just didn't fit though a good hitter.
