Advice for Wrigley?

I hesitate to weigh in with my limited experience and success. You heard from the best guys already. I have a Wrigley team in second place. It is:

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/2005/team/team_other.html?user_id=38021

The link looks weird but it works. I did survey about 15 Wrigley teams in my other ten leagues, only one winner, by the way. So I would concur on a lot of the things you have heard.

I know Aramis R. works great if you can stand his 4 rating on d, Sheffield did real well here and in another team. I saw Vlad tear it up in a Wrigley team, those are obvious. Belliard was the best 2nd baseman in the survey. I do think you can get too RH in your thinking and find yourself at Shea (I have three in my league). Maddux was the best deal going. Zambrano of course and Peavy. It is the most quirky park I played in so far.

I would be interested in seeing how you do.

walked on

Postby PAULMINICUCCI » Wed Dec 07, 2005 9:12 pm

Hey I just wanted everyone to know that JD had a Wrigley team that was in a league I was in and he mostly did the walking on, he won 90 games and his division. Didn't notice whether he won the playoffs or not. So JD's version of getting walked on sure is different than mine but then that's how he earned his rating. I'll trade for a 90 win team anythime!!

JD is this year's version of Cristano

Postby ROBERTVOZZA » Wed Dec 07, 2005 9:31 pm

But more of a West Coast version. A bit more polite. Cristano is from Connecticut like myself - where everybody is pretty over the top and in your face...I've just lived in the West the past 23 years - probably close to his actual age.

But nobody argues about either player's talent, skill or competitive urge. They are both tremendous players.

Not sure what Wrigley team you're talking about, SacKings. This is my second one, with the first going 71-91. I do pretty well in Shea and SBC, though - Wrigley shook me up a bit the first time, because I'm usually at least in the race until the end!

Thanks, Rob. I'm still trying to figure everyone out as far as who's for real, who'll stick around through a losing season, and all that stuff - as for me, I used to replay the seasons by myself as a teenager with the cards, dice, a pencil, and a few graph paper legal pads that I fashioned into score sheets. Yeah, I know... most of you guys had [i:1b7634616c]sex[/i:1b7634616c] in high school. I played Strat. By myself. In my room. Alone.

And yes, I'm 26 years of age - pretty close to Rob's guess of 23.

Actually...

Postby ROBERTVOZZA » Thu Dec 08, 2005 4:51 am

I was guessing that was Cristano's age...I played strat AND had sex in HS. And I used to make up those score sheets with a pad as well.

A bunch of us got the board game(Actually I did) but we all split the cost and held our own LIVE DRAFTS in the late 70's and early 80's. There were about 8 of us and we each had a National and an American league team. Each played a 60 game season and then the AL winner played the NL winner. i played 5 years, winning the 1st, 3rd and 5th titles with my AL KC Royals Team.

Great fun - but definitely in a whole other league compared to sex.

I also don't think...

05' isn't the best Wrigley year cardwise. i honestly think it is a pitcher's Park year - and it appears that the players who get the top starting Pitching have fared very well.

I have always been Pitching and defense oriented and tended to play in 1 sided HR Parks that were basically Pitcher's Parks otherwise - ie. Wrigley and it's LH counterpart - Safeco.

But after failing to get SP's I wanted in the 1st 2 leagues this year, I switched my strategy for the 1st time ever and have gone primarily with high value position players and taking my midranged to bargain pitching aafter the 10th pick.

Very competitive year tho. It is difficult to put together just the right combination of players - even prior to drafting. :)

Great going with the tinkering and the re-shuffling, your team looks filthy good.

Your pen looks quite steady and I think N. Perez is a bargain for the defense he brings, if your lineup can take the low production from the 2B, which I think in your case it's pretty safe to say so.

Nice work.

All best of luck in the season!

Filthy good, eh? Season starts tonight, so we should find out soon enough. I've done well in Shea and SBC, as you've seen, but I haven't quite gotten the hang of Wrigley (this is my second team there). I just hope that Barry doesn't miss too many games, and that Millar and Hunter provide some relatively heavy lumber. My pitching kind of scares me, but there wasn't enough left to really make a difference in the rotation - so I bring to you smash mouth baseball, courtesy of a man who can't play a right handed park to save his life! :P

Remember,

Although Bonds' injury is on 3/11, he'll only miss 3 games at a time.

This team should compete much better

Postby ROBERTVOZZA » Mon Dec 12, 2005 10:43 pm

The only thing I see missing that could be helpful is a RH reverse SP - to keep the opposition from using a lefty stack against you. (Mussina/Williams/Haren/ Wakefield - even Franklin at only .50) Just to keep the oposition honest.
