Overpriced 86ers

Our historical single season sets

That's why

I wrote "Not Raines." I DON'T think that he's overpriced--his card is filled with hits--but he's been crap for me so far. I've just moved him up to lead-off. I just see what he's done and see way better numbers with Tony Phillips (2B), Pat Tabler (1B), and Mitch Webster (CF). (Phillips' is a hell of a steal for a multi-positional OBP-machine.)

Anyone in a league with me who has Eric Davis, Raines, or Bradley who wishes to trade him to me make an offer. Unless circumstances of my team dictate otherwise I will help you by taking them off your hands.

My experience is limited, but a valid argument could be made that good pitching will defeat good hitting most of the time. In these 12-team leagues - especially at the $200M cap - everyone has three, if not four, good pitchers. On a real team, you'd be lucky to have more than two that are consistantly good.

That said, in one of my leagues I've seen Jody Davis rack up a pair of grand slams in one game and in another Valenzuela is winless after 3 starts w/ and ERA over 5.

Note: These are observations made after nine games looking at three leagues (2 80M and 1 200M).

Balanced Approach

Postby JohnnyBlazers » Thu Mar 27, 2008 10:52 pm

I don't think it is worth to overpay for some of the cards. it seems like many of the high priced cards are biased to either L or R (Von Hayes 9R for example). Unless you put a player like that in the right situation, you are better off spending the money on a balanced player and on the right positions. Of the 5 teams I have, I have either Thon or Templeton at SS, and though they can't hit much, they do have a least a 2 at SS and I can spend the money on players worth 6 or 7 mil who can have a better impact. So far I've had good success. Best players for the money:

Brett
Bream/Hendricks platoon
Parrish or Pena at C - need a strong arm with all the base stealers in this set.
Lopes - great OBP, steals top of lineup

and the one player who is the best for the money:

Kirby Puckett

I get your point but Hayes is not a 9R.

I'll add another name to the most overpriced players list.....Dave Winfield. So far I'm not impressed with Dave Parker's numbers either.

Agree on Winfield and Parker would need to really play a lot in the bomber parks to be any good. He's all ## and $$.
