well if ratings are any consequence
Roberto Clemente is a 1in ATG ,but consistently commits 10 or more errors in a season

# of errors have absolutely no bearing on the range rating.
A guy who commits few errors could still have a 4 range rating, and a guy who commits a lot of errors could have a 1 range rating.
Range rating is the players ability to get to the ball, not the ability to field the ball. That is what the "e" rating is for.

[quote:727480fb15]Strat's individual player ratings are often adjusted to increase the statistical accuracy of an actual season replay. In other words, if making Derek Jeter a three like he should be is going to cost the Yankees 7 or 8 wins in a replay because their pitching is so bad then he will remain a two, like he has. Hope that helps explain some of the unjustified ratings.[/quote:727480fb15]

This is somewhat correct: the final results of a full defense (pitching + defense) will equal correct projections in the standard replay environment. However, you're drawing the wrong conclusion about why ratings are wrong. They're wrong because HAL perceives them incorrectly. If he gives McLouth the 3 in centerfield that he deserves, that simply means he has to adjust each Pittsburgh pitcher to have better results on pitching rolls (non X results). His replay projections would still come out just fine.
Giving all the Philly fielders amazing ratings isn't favoritism--it just means that the Philly pitchers' cards will not be as strong as they otherwise would be if the fielders had worse ratings because they have to take on more of the "hit" results for correct projection's sake.

Gomez

[quote:1af2abf847="AeroDave10"]He probably won't have too pricey of a card in 2008 because of his weak bat, but it is a joke that Carlos Gomez is not a 1 in CF.[/quote:1af2abf847]

Yes, Gomez may have the best CF range in the bigs. His error rating will bring him back to earth. A "1" range with a high error rating would be realistic.

[quote:4ffa75bc55="klx22"]I have a beef with ankiel being a 3 in Cf. How is that? Maybe Ive only seen the highlights of his good catches, but I think he deserves @ least a 2![/quote:4ffa75bc55]
He's been remarkably inconsistent. One day, he'll make an unbelievable catch, and the next miss a routine fly ball. I think it's an experience thing. He has great talent.
