I believe TSN got rid of their free and paid fantasy sports games a couple of years ago. The only reason why I knew about SOM Online was I found it by accident and remembered that my Uncle and his friends used to play the board game. I don't know why they eliminated those games, it seemed like they had a pretty good rate of participation. That's what puzzles me; since the lifeblood of websites is TRAFFIC (just like viewership for TV), why cut something that brings so many people in?
TSN is in a tough spot for fantasy sports. ESPN and FOX also have TV channels to promote/tie-in to each other. Yahoo has a hugely successful web portal. TSN has a magazine (how well are newspapers and magazines doing these days?) and a poorly designed website. So if I were to draw a conclusion, I would say the $25/team fee plus accompanying web traffic (a very important figure for ad rates) from all of us SOM groupies is enough to justify the status quo with an upgrade here or there (in their eyes).
Obviously I'm speculating about all of this but it makes sense to me. One more thing: I think people tend to blame Bernie for nearly everything because he's the only person they've heard from. Let's try to see this from his perspective. I'm going to assume that Bernie is a one man show who has to get approval for many things (budget, upgrades, discounts, etc). Understanding that many of you have been using SOM Online much longer than I, I know you have your grievances. Have any of you considered that Bernie might happen to agree with a lot of our points and be just as frustrated that he can't implement some of them? It's not like he would be able to post or e-mail something to the effect of "You're rights guys, but the powers that be won't do it for you". How would that go over with his boss? Just something to think about. We all deal with roadblocks at some point in our jobs, and I'm sure Bernie has plenty of his too. I'm not saying that I disagree with "the customer is always right", lack of marketing, etc that many of you have mentioned. But when I see boldfaced postings asking Bernie to respond to an angry mob that he actually may agree with, I wonder what you expect him to say on public record.
